Medals & Awards Criteria

CADET AWARD FOR BRAVERY

  • The Cadet Award of Bravery may be awarded to a Cadet who performs an outstanding deed of valour involving risk of life in attempting to save the life or property of others.

    The navy blue represents the affiliation between the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets and the Royal Canadian Navy, the red is for the affiliation between the Royal Canadian Army Cadets and the Canadian Army and the light blue is for the affiliation between the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and the Royal Canadian Air Force.

LORD STRATHCONA TRUST FUND MEDAL

  • The Lord Strathcona Medal is the highest award, which can be bestowed upon a Cadet in recognition of exemplary performance in physical and military training. The Medal and the accompanying Certificate of Merit are awarded by the Lord Strathcona Trust. The issue and wearing of the LSM is authorized by the Chief of the Defence Staff. Each Army Cadet Corps has the opportunity to award one medal in each training year, but the award of the medal is to be based solely on the availability of a worthy candidate. Awarding the LSM annually is not mandatory and is not a matter of any custom for a particular appointment or by seniority alone.

    This medal is selected by the Commanding Officer on the advice of Corps officers and NCOs.

ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION CADET MEDAL OF EXCELLENCE

  • The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) Cadet Medal of Excellence is awarded in recognition for individual endeavours in citizenship that meet or enhance the aims and objectives of the Cadet movement. This medal is presented to a Cadet who, over many years, has actively participated in community service activities and works exceptionally well with fellow Cadets, volunteers and unit officers. The Cadet must also consistently promote esprit de corps, comradeship, goodwill, and enhance the image of Cadets in their local community. The Cadet must have fulfilled all requirements of the Corps local headquarters annual mandatory training program and participated in 75% of the optional training. In addition, the Cadet must have participated in at least three community service events, in addition to the Corps supported programs.

    ​This medal is selected by the Commanding Officer on the advice of Corps officers and NCOs.

ARMY, NAVY AND AIR FORCE VETERANS IN CANADA CADET MEDAL OF MERIT

  • The Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada (ANAVETS), as a legacy to its desire to promote excellence and awareness of the CCO, has established the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada Cadet Medal of Merit (ANAVETS Cadet Medal of Merit).

    One medal shall be awarded at each CTC to the Top Cadet for each Instructor level course.

MAJOR GENERAL HOWARD AWARD

  • Major-General W. A. Howard, CMM, CM, CD, QC, Colonel Commandant Royal Canadian Army Cadets from 1974 to 1979, established an annual award for outstanding army cadets known as “The Major-General W. A. Howard Medal” as a legacy to promote training excellence by senior Army Cadets through a structured assessment of a Cadet’s overall performance. This award will recognize the cadet in each province and territory who has achieved the highest results in the 4th year (Gold Star) training level annually as they prepare to enter into the Year 5 (Master Cadet) level.

    Approving authority for this award is the Army Cadet League of Canada.

ARMY CADET SERVICE MEDAL

  • The Army Cadet League of Canada has created an award to recognize continuous meritorious Cadet service of at least four years by deserving Army Cadets. To qualify for this award, a serving Cadet must have successfully completed four years of honourable service with no serious infractions, and be recommended by the Cadet Corps Commanding Officer. Furthermore, eligible service is portable between Army Cadet Corps. Army Cadets are also eligible to receive a Bar for each year of training completed beyond the four year qualifying period.

MOST OUTSTANDING GREEN STAR CADET

  • This award is presented to the Green Star Cadet that excels in attendance, community service participation, dress, drill, deportment and performs exceptionally well at outdoor adventure skills.

MOST OUTSTANDING RED STAR CADET

  • This award is presented to the Red Star Cadet that excels in attendance, community service participation, dress, drill, deportment and performs exceptionally well at outdoor adventure skills.

MOST OUTSTANDING SILVER STAR CADET

  • This award is presented to the Silver Star Cadet that excels in attendance, community service participation, dress, drill, deportment and performs exceptionally well at outdoor adventure skills.

MOST OUTSTANDING GOLD STAR CADET

  • This award is presented to the Gold Star Cadet that excels in attendance, community service participation, dress, drill, deportment and performs exceptionally well at outdoor adventure skills.

Most Improved Marksman

  • This award is presented to the cadet who has regularly participated in the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Air Rifle Marksmanship program and has shown the most improvement in air rifle marksmanship skills.

Most Outstanding Senior Marksman

  • This award is presented to the senior cadet who has been regularly participated in the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Air Rifle Marksmanship Program and has demonstrated exceptional marksmanship, sportsmanship, and leadership.

Most Outstanding Junior Marksman

  • This award is presented to the junior cadet who has been regularly participated in the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Air Rifle Marksmanship Program and has demonstrated exceptional marksmanship, sportsmanship, and leadership.

Most Improved Drill Team Member

  • This award is presented to the cadet who has been actively participating in the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Drill Team and has shown the most improvement in drill team participation and skills.

Most Outstanding Drill Team Member

  • This award is presented to the Drill Team Member who has been actively participating in the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Drill Team, with exceptional drill, and a team player approach.

Most Improved Bandsman

  • This award is presented to the Cadet who is an active member of the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Brass and Reed Ceremonial Band and has shown the most improvement in their musical skills.

Most Outstanding Bandsman

  • This award is presented to the cadet who is an active member of the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Brass and Reed Ceremonial Band and has consistently shown excellent musical and leadership skills.

Colonel Geoff Parker, CD ‘Esprit de Corps’ Memorial Cup

  • This award was first presented in 2010. It is awarded to the Cadet that has displayed exceptional ‘Esprit de Corps’ throughout the current cadet year. This award is also celebrating the life and career of former 1188 Lorne Scots Army Cadet Corps – Oakville, Cadet Company Sergeant Major (1986) Colonel Geoff Parker, CD who was the 145th Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan on 18 May 2010.

The Cst Tritan Kettles Memorial Award for Excellence in Leadership

  • This award is presented to the Cadet that has brought high levels of collaboration, innovation, and commitment to the cadet program. This cadet is a true mentor, inspiring others to excellence and possesses a high level of trust, credibility and an understanding of how to truly build a successful team through leadership.

Cadet Chief Warrant Officer R. Van Gemert Memorial Award Most Outstanding Dress and Deportment

  • This award is presented to the Cadet that has consistently displayed exceptional dress, deportment, and has a high level of attendance, at cadet activities.

Ray Hume Award – Most Outstanding Cadet

  • This award is presented to the Cadet that has excelled throughout the current cadet year in all aspects of the Army Cadet program including: attendance, drill, dress, deportment, fitness, leadership, exceptional at outdoor adventure training, and their dedication to community service.
